The Challenge

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) contacted DelCor looking for outsourced technology support to improve the state of their technology. The organization did not have any dedicated IT staff and hadn’t developed a strategic roadmap, which led to an aging premise-based technology stack and poor governance around their file management and technology applications.

Core systems were not updated regularly, and multiple high priority issues around the organization’s association management system (iMIS) had not been addressed in a timely manner. Overall, ACSM was struggling with the lack of transparency around technology and the staff’s distrust of the systems in place.

The Process

Our interim CIO bolstered ACSM’s IT resources by hiring a new managed service provider, an Applications Manager, and a Senior IT Manager. 

 The CIO then formed two cross-departmental teams: one for assessing and prioritizing technology projects and one for overseeing the file drive migration to OneDrive and SharePoint Online.

To fix the lack of transparency surrounding the staff’s technology issues, we added a web-based helpdesk system.

We also transitioned remaining premise-based applications to cloud-based solutions and implemented training on iMIS, Informz, and Microsoft 365.

Our Senior IT Manager and Applications Manager have advanced technology initiatives, and the staff’s trust in their technology leadership has greatly improved because of the increased transparency regarding helpdesk issues and the overall technology roadmap.

The switch to Microsoft 365 for communication, collaboration, and file management has improved efficiency and staff morale. With the appropriate staff involved with technology decisions,
