August 18, 2010 (Silver Spring, MD) – It’s fun to revisit the past, and smart to embrace technology that carries your association into the future.
That's the message DelCor is sharing with attendees at ASAE's 2010 Annual Meeting & Exposition in Los Angeles, August 22-24, 2010.
"We've been around for more than 25 years, helping the association community make the best use of technology. What's neat is that all the technology we take for granted today really is grounded in the 1970s and 1980s – right around the time we were founded," said Loretta M. DeLuca, DelCor's founder and CEO.
"We decided to revisit some of that technology through our exhibit at the annual conference. We're paying homage to the past as we look toward what's next for association IT. And we're having a lot of fun with it!"
DelCor's booth – number 226 on the show floor – will feature a retro theme, complete with nostalgic costumes from bygone decades and an original Atari 2600, along with some other blasts from the past. Booth visitors will even have a chance to test their old-school gaming skills in the DelCor Game Lounge, where Pac-Man will be served up on the big screen.
In an innovative application of social media, DelCor has partnered with eight other IT vendors to participate in the inaugural Technology Booth Crawl. Participants can stop by the DelCor booth, check in on Foursquare, and be eligible for a special Mayor status, as well as prizes valued at $2,500. The crawl highlights new ways associations can engage members through social media applications.
“Geo-location apps like Foursquare are garnering a lot of attention and associations are asking whether those apps have real, practical applications," said KiKi L'Italien, DelCor's senior consultant in social media and member communities. "The booth crawl is a great way to become more familiar with how these applications work and gain insight into how they can help organizations engage fans – all while having a great time.”
Details on the Technology Booth Crawl are available in this press release. Participation grids will be available on site at the DelCor booth.
In yet another innovative move, L'Italien, host of the DelCor Social Media Sweet Spot, will broadcast live from the engagement lounge. The Sweet Spot is a live, weekly webcast, followed regularly by association and nonprofit staff on Twitter, Ustream, and Facebook. Viewers can tune in Monday, August 23, at 12:30 p.m. PT online or in-person in the engagement lounge.
